Aldergrove, BC . March . 2010
John and I moved from our home town of Vanderhoof BC, to Aldergrove BC in March of 2010. We plan on making many trips, hopefully most of them are by motorcycle but sometimes there are places you just can’t get to from here on a bike. We plan on posting those too. Stay tuned…. Taiwan, Beijing, Xi’an & Hong Kong . March . 2009
14 hours in a steel tube to land in Taiwan. Where my baby brother married his love and where the tiny people eat more than their body weight in food every day. Travelled Taipei City by MRT, visited Juifen by bus, and the Shilin Night, Danshui, and Snake Alley night market by foot.
Back on the plane on the way to Beijing via Hong Kong. Where we tried to visit the Chairman (Mao not Sinatra) in Tiananmen Square and the Last Emperor in The Forbidden City. Taxi drivers wouldn’t pick us up to save our lives and because we don’t speak Chinese, couldn’t figure out why!? So, by city bus to visit the Empress Dowager’s Marble Boat in Kunming Lake at the Summer Palace. Then finally a taxi to the giant Beijing West Train Station for the overnight sleeper to Xi’an to visit The Warriors.
Xi’an, the home of the Terracotta Warriors. The walled city revealed the Muslim market and the kite fliers. Back on the plane from Xi’an to Beijing. China Airlines gave me food poisoning the day before climbing The Great Wall. Back into Beijing to visit the Wangfujing Night Market to snack on scorpions and starfish.
On to the plane again from Beijing to Hong Kong to stay in the smallest hotel in the world, to take a ride on the Star Ferry and the tram to see the view from Victoria Peak. Where we took a walk around the famous harbour, visited Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Jet Li then a MRT ride to the Temple Night Market. Where we had some of the best Chinese food with some Chinese Migrants and buses passing feet from our chairs. Then back on the MRT to the airport for the long flight home.
